RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations)

RIDDOR requires employers to report specified work-related deaths, serious injuries, occupational diseases, and dangerous occurrences to the HSE.

The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013, known as RIDDOR, place a legal duty on employers, the self-employed, and people in control of premises to report certain serious workplace incidents to the HSE. This includes work-related deaths, specified injuries such as fractures and amputations, injuries causing more than seven days' incapacity, certain occupational diseases, and dangerous occurrences (near misses with high potential for harm).

Reports are usually made online to the HSE within set timescales, and records of reportable incidents must be kept. RIDDOR data helps the HSE identify where and how risks arise and to target its enforcement and guidance.

On site, a clear incident reporting process helps ensure that RIDDOR-reportable events are recognised and reported correctly and on time, which is important both legally and for learning from what went wrong.
