SIA Daily Occurrence Book (DOB)

A daily occurrence book is a chronological log kept by security staff recording events, incidents, and activity during their shift.

A Daily Occurrence Book, or DOB, is a chronological record maintained by security personnel, such as door supervisors and security guards, to log events during their duty. Entries typically include shift start and end times, patrols, visitors, incidents, ejections, refusals, and any handovers, each timed and dated.

While the Security Industry Authority (SIA) licenses individuals working in the private security industry under the Private Security Industry Act 2001, keeping a daily occurrence book is a long-standing professional practice and is often required by clients and licensing conditions rather than by the SIA itself. A well-kept DOB provides an accurate, contemporaneous account of what happened on site.

Because DOB entries can become important evidence in disputes, investigations, or licensing reviews, they should be legible, accurate, made at the time, and kept secure.
