Site Induction

A site induction is a briefing given to workers and visitors before they start on a site, covering its specific hazards, rules, and arrangements.

A site induction is the introductory briefing that every worker, and often every visitor, must receive before beginning work or entering a construction site. It covers the site-specific hazards, emergency procedures, welfare arrangements, site rules, and key personnel, so that people understand the risks and expectations before they start.

Inductions support duties under CDM 2015 and the wider requirement to provide information and instruction under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. The principal contractor is generally responsible for ensuring that anyone working on site has been suitably inducted.

Keeping a record of who has been inducted, and when, is important both for controlling site access and for demonstrating that people were informed of the risks. Inductions may need refreshing when site conditions change significantly.
